Short Course Androgenisation in Late Reported Cases with Microphallus

Microphallus is a condition in which the penis is abnormally short, and treatment should begin in infancy or early childhood. The aim of this study was to see how short-term testosterone therapy affected late-reported cases of microphallus.

Methods: A total of 17 cases of microphallus were studied, ranging in age from 8 to 15 years. Individuals with bilateral palpable gonads were diagnosed with microphallus using standard criteria. All patients were given 50 to 75 mg of intramuscular testosterone once every 21 days until their average extended penile length (SPL) for age was reached or a cumulative dose of 450 mg of testosterone was administered. The absolute and percent rise in SPL was used to determine the reaction to testosterone therapy. We also contrasted the treatment response of cases identified up to and after the age of ten years.

The report contained a total of 17 cases in its findings. They all met or exceeded their SPL goals. Seven of the seventeen boys were between the ages of eight and ten (Group 1), and ten were between the ages of twelve and fifteen (Group 2). The SPL of 17 microphallus cases before care was 3.130.15. (2.81 – 3.45 cm). Both of the cases had an average phallus for their age, with a substantial rise in SPL of 8.940.32 (8.27 -9.61 cm) after treatment; sig..000. The two groups had comparable gains in SPL (3.89 –6.25) vs (5.32 -7.34 cm) and percent increment (126.47 -215.31 percent ) vs (145.43 -288.53 percent ) (sig..139), but older boys (Gr 2) needed more total testosterone (162.52 –387.48 mg) vs (326.vs 15 – 433.85 mg); sig.0.043.

Conclusion: Microphallus in boys with palpable gonads referred to short-term testosterone therapy, and we classified these cases as simple microphallus.
